About Me
- Bethany
- Hello! I am Bethany, a mom of 4 beautiful children, a owner of a dog, and married to a miner/hunter. (Camo is a popular color in our home). We recently relocated to the UP of Michigan from Juneau,Alaska...a huge adjustment. I have a passion for photography and documenting our journey through life. But, most of the time Im busy with my kids, hiding in the bathroom for peace and quiet, or trying to find my dog because he runs away all the time. Welcome to our world...always full of adventure.

TURNING 30
I woke up this morning and realized...Im 30. It finally hit me. Wow, I survived the ups and downs of the 20's. I don't think the 30's will be all that bad. It will be alot of parenting, adjusting to Juneau, and HOPEFULLY, have some good getaways with my wonderful husband (I love you honey!)
,
So, on my birthday I got the chance to getaway. It was to lunch with friends at a local restaurant downtown called Terentinos. They even sang happy birthday to me which I cringed in embarrasement, remembering the days at red robin.

After lunch, I told the girls I wanted a group photo. They thought that just ment a snap shot...until I pulled out the props and the tripod. They should know by now, I don't do snapshots. We walked down to this little park and set up. My camera, all set-up on a tripod with a remote timer, and us 4 ladies posing for it was quite hilarious.
You see, here in Juneau, there are 3-6 cruise ships that port here, which brings people. There were so many people walking by us wondering what we were doing...because there wasn't anyone behind the camera....and here we are, laughing and posing. It was sooo funny...

1 week old

Colton is 1 week old today. He now weighs 7pds 5oz. Colton eats all the time and sleeps inbetween. We have now moved onto size 1 diapers, but are still in newborn clothes. He is a perfect baby. I never get sick of holding him and watching him sleep.
We have also given him his first bath. Some kids like it...but Colton, not so much. He just doesn't like his clothes off. Or to be cold. Or to be changed. It's a rough life..Monday, June 21

overdue

Do you ever just want to throw your hands up and scream in frustration?
40 weeks plus 2. Still no baby.
What is even worse is I haven't had good contractions.
Whats even worse is they don't induce here until your 2 weeks overdue.
What's even worse than that is the mental struggle that goes with it all...aka the waiting game that never ends.

The weather is raining and blowing sideways...literally.
AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Ok, so sometimes you just got to let it out. It's 4am and I'm overdue. I probably wont answer my phone today because I have no hope and no good news. But I thank you for your comment your probably not going to leave me on this post...but thanks for reading my frustration. Give it 24 hours, I will be more positive.

OH, DID I MENTION....Have a great day.

KINDERGARTEN FIELD TRIP
I am impressed with the fieldtrips the kids in the Juneau school district get to experience. They are filled with outdoor activities and some very special trips that I never did. For instance, Treys class went on a 4 1/2 mile hike to a glacier. And Morgans kindergarten class went on a Whale watching Cruise. Here are some pictures from her class trip.

I love being out on the water. This is typical with whale watching boats, to have one following close by. They radio to each other where the whales are.
We ventured out onto the deck where it was windy. Morgan thought it was funny how the wind was pushing her back.
And you are probably wondering where the whales are? Well, we found sea lions floating on a bowie and a pod of killer whales.

It will be my birthday this month and I will be turning 30....
yes, the big 3-0.
I didn't think it would really be that big of a deal turning 30 but it kinda is.
1- 10 years ago I was 20 and looking good. Now, I definitely have to work harder at it.

2-10 years ago, I had alot of energy. My engine just doesn't run as smoothly...It needs more tune-ups. My getup and go-jo is a little rusty.
3-10 years ago, I had a new baby boy. Now 10 years later, I am having another baby boy :))
4-10 years ago, I was single and stupid. Now I'm married. (I'm not answering the other one)
5-10 years ago, I would spend my time working at the television station and living off of 1200.00 a month and still getting by. Now, I live off of much more and am still just getting by.

GARDENING
Is this how we all feel about gardening? Like it would be so much work to make that beautiful garden? In the end, will anything even grow?
If you try, just think of all the organic fresh veggies you can get. I SAY CAN...I didn't say will. Just grow what your environment will grow. If you have alot of sunshine, you can grow tomatoes and sun loving veggies. If its wet and moist, there are a list of veggies that will grow.

I would love to have apple trees and a cherry tree, but the chances of that happening here is pretty slim...I'm not getting my hopes up. BUT, we can grow berries. (I would still prefer the apples), and rhubarb. We can also grow cabbage and lettuce really well.
Another thing, if your ground is dry, you need to add moisture...constantly. If it's wet, make sure you have your garden in a spot that it gets the most sunlight by monitoring your yard for the most daylight.
I don't know much, but I do love to garden if I have the chance.

PHOTOSHOP REMODEL
I remember when I was a youth, I would go through better homes and garden magazines and cut out designs that I loved. I always loved to remodel my living space. One time, I saw my moms bathroom and started remodeling it--ripping down wall paper and then continued onto the shower. However, because I couldn't replace the shower with a new look, the project came to a standstill until my parents rescued the effort...
Yesterday was the engineers inspection of the property. This was my chance to get in there and measure and take tons of pictures. When I got home, I uploaded the photos and started to play with the colors of paint.

Do you remember this picture from my last post? Photoshop makes it so simple to select that exact color from the picture and magically... my house... has that color of paint.

Decorating
Part of moving into a project house is painting. The house has these amazing vaulted ceilings and cedar walls. It's a little more rustic than I like. It's going to be interesting to work with, but I think I have found some very good colors that give me hope.
These are just colors and designs that I think will look good with the existing kitchen.
Peach or tan? I can't decide what color it is but I think it works well with all the wood.
This master bedroom is something that I'm sure will work. I love the 3 tones of paint that work so well together.

We will see...I might just be dreaming of the clean, open looks these have. But it gives me hope.
