About Me

My photo
Hello! I am Bethany, a mom of 4 beautiful children, a owner of a dog, and married to a miner/hunter. (Camo is a popular color in our home). We recently relocated to the UP of Michigan from Juneau,Alaska...a huge adjustment. I have a passion for photography and documenting our journey through life. But, most of the time Im busy with my kids, hiding in the bathroom for peace and quiet, or trying to find my dog because he runs away all the time. Welcome to our world...always full of adventure.

I would ask you or some of the locals what to do. I think that is the best advice I recieved when traveling to a new place, ask someone who lives there what they love most and hopefully it's not full of tourists! And see a bear.

This is so cool. You have done an awesome job on the blog. As you probably know, we don't have a blog, I wouldn't even know where to start. I am going to be checking yours now...it's a great way to keep up on your family. Thanks!

OK - I would come to Alaska. I have had enough sunshine for a while. Coincidently, it is raining right now. I have never been to Alaska and I read a series of books based there. The wilderness seems cool. I like your sister's idea of climbing the glacier. Seeing you guys would be the best part. Miss you all.

First day arrive into town and spend two days with Beth and Andy hanging out. Letting them show me around their world.
Day 2- pack my gear.
Day 3- Spend several days backpacking the old mines and trails. See glaciers..of course! Be out on the trail wondering what wonders lay around the next corner...definitely for me. I would love to stop somewhere at a lodge and devour homemade Alaskan pancakes with lots of maple syrup and butter drizzling off the sides. I would love to take a private plane over central Alaska. Fish next to a stream for salmon while I watch bears come within yards of me...but I would carry a flare. I can feel the adrenalin now! Oh and stop to visit with some indigenous Inuit peoples at one of their villages. Buy one of their handmade baskets. Experience the taste of seal meat...raw. How about tasting a fresh King crab and eating it all by myself...Fresh caught and cooked...mmm. Dipped in melted butter. Take a ride on Andys boat (but not to far out) lol. Have him teach me to catch big ocean fish and what type of lures and bait to use. Maybe have him teach me to use a turkey call (fascinating) Someday, better days will come my way.

Since I already live in Juneau, AK, I would want to be on a tropical beach in either Mexico or Hawaii. I would take my husband and babies with me, but I would bring a nanny or friend to watch the babies so that Scott and I could go snorkeling or scuba diving. I know I'm dreaming, but waking up to a foot of snow in my driveway this morning made me realize how much I need to go lie in the sun with some yummy fruity drinks!!

If we were in Juneau, we would be catching up with all of our old friends and having nice cozy family dinners with the Vaughn family!! We would need to catch a church service!! We so would have to visit the Glacier and hopefully it would be summer time so we could go on all kinds of hikes, because Alaska does have some of the prettiest trails! Before we left we would definatly have to eat at the Twisted Fish!! I think That my favorite thing would be spoiling Mattie, Morgan, and Trey! Maybe little Mattie would still be my snuggle bug, I'm sure Miss Morgan would be!! We Miss you so much!!

I saw this earlier and forgot to come back to comment, I am glad you reminded me. I have an avid fly fishing/hunter married to me, so if I went to alaska with him, i am sure that's what we would be doing, but if I went by myself, i would love to hike and sight-see the beautiful wilderness in Alaska (the whale watching cruises seem cool).

I just saw your comment on Brooke's blog so I decided to enter. I worked in Denali one summer and I LOVE Alaska! So i'd love to win something that had Alaska written all over it! I've also been to Juneau before as well. Of course, none of my trips were in the winter! If I were to go back, I would definitely do some hiking and sea kayaking. my email is melaniespitcher at yahoo.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll be checking back often if you don't mind. I'm interested to see what life is like there!

I love where I live, however I do so very much enjoy going on vacation where the sun shines every day and the temp is above 80. Your friends and family sound like they would really enjoy a visit here in Juneau. And it also sounds like the rain won't hurt them any. What an adventure Alaska is. Your Friend Lela

Well, I have enjoyed reading the above posts. I have a favorite, though. Anyway, I live in Juneau, and have traveled throughout southeast, but haven't seen much of the rest of the state other than Anchorage and Fairbanks, so I would really like to take a trip with the family to Denali and take the train between Anchorage and Fairbanks, I can just imagine the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Of course, I'd like to stop and stay somewhere in between for a night or two. I remember the cross-country Canadian trip my parents took me on when I was about 10 years old. We went from Prince Rupert accross to Quebec and what an experience!

I missed mentioning that that Canadian trip was all on the train.

I would want to see any wildlife. Hmm and whatever else there is to do, you'd have to show me.

Oh, man. I think I just missed the time cut off. That's what I get for cleaning up the kitchen before I sit down at the computer.
Let's see since I'm already in Juneau, I'd have to think that I would go out to the glacier, take a hike, and take a drive out the road. That's what we did when we first came up here for Shawn to be interviewed.
