About Me

My photo
Hello! I am Bethany, a mom of 4 beautiful children, a owner of a dog, and married to a miner/hunter. (Camo is a popular color in our home). We recently relocated to the UP of Michigan from Juneau,Alaska...a huge adjustment. I have a passion for photography and documenting our journey through life. But, most of the time Im busy with my kids, hiding in the bathroom for peace and quiet, or trying to find my dog because he runs away all the time. Welcome to our world...always full of adventure.

FRIED BREAD

This weekend was quite enjoyable. This weather has inspired me to cook. Not just cook, I'm talking like canning and bread making. My kids really love to get involved. They love to cook. So this time, instead of making one batch of fried bread, each of the kids made their own. This was sooo much fun! I never thought it could be so much fun. In the end, we had a little mess to clean up, and tons of fried bread to enjoy.

Here is how making memories all began. With a recipe...

ALDEN'S FRY BREAD RECIPE
1 tbl yeast
1 C. warm water
Set the first 2 ingredients to brew-about 10 minutes

ADD in Order:
1/4 C. Oil
3/4 tbl salt
1 C. warm water
1/3 C. sugar
5 cups flour

Kneading. About 15 minutes. My take a little time, getting it to the consistency needed. You might need to add more water, or flour, but you want it so that it won't stick to your fingers.

It will shape into a ball.

rolling. Take a ball of dough and roll it on a floured surface. It will look like a flat pancake. Continue until all the dough is gone.

Frying. You want the oil hot, 375 in deep fryer. On the stove, hot enough that when you test it, it must immediately come to the top. To get even puffiness, flip when one side is golden brown.

Serving. When serving fried bread for dinner, I top it with chili, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa.

PS. Oh Yes, watch your flour bucket around a 2 year old.

LOL! I didnt see those last pictures of mattie coming. That is hilarious. First off, If i had a deep fryer like that i would be about 30 pounds heavier. I think I would fry everything. secondly, those tacos look so good I am tempted to go out and buy myself a fryer right now, 30 pounds hesvier or not, that just looks too good to pass up. I love the pictures and reading about his fun activity you did with your kids. Youa re a great mom!

Ash. You don't fry everything all the time. Just on special occations, or for french fries. You can even turn this one into a boiler! Isn't that cool.
