Well, I did it. Yesterday, was the first day of class at UAS and I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. I enrolled for the Advanced Photography class for 2 reasons. 1-I know there are things that I could be better at and 2-education is the key to success.
Some of you might not agree with #2. I understand education isn't EVERYTHING but in my career choice, it is a big chunk of success. In most careers, it's a big chunk.
The total cost was $614.00 for a 3 credit course. 3 credits. They told me that in this day and age, at our little branch of UAS, a graduating student would pay an average of 22,000 dollars for a graduate...and now it takes 4-6years. That is alot of time.
To break it down even further, that would be $5,500 a year for 4 years, OR $458.333 A MONTH. This is just an average joe, getting his education. Not including food, shelter, books, and beer (...I'm just saying. Did you also know students pay more for beer in college than food? Seriously, it was in my economics class in college.)
PUTTING AWAY
How, would a mother of 4 kids afford college for all of their kids? If I started now, I would need to put away 152.00 a month for Morgan, 260.00 a month for Trey, 122.00 a month for Mattie, and 100.00 a month for Colton
TOTAL= 634.00 a month for the next 8 years (at the least.) I better go find me some gold!
(...ANDY, THAT'S YOUR DEPARTMENT.)

That's exactly what a 529 plan is for. They have tax incentives. Reuben does them...
Another option is to put away their dividends.
Lastly, no one paid for my college or Reuben's. That is why student loans and JOBS were invented- so college kids could get themselves through college!
Have a ball in your new class. I want to hear all about what you learn!
If you go the 529 route, I'd recommend the U of Alaska College Savings Plan or Vanguard's 529 - their fees are reasonable.
Can't wait to see the pictures from the Advanced class.
