When the day actually came, it wasn't as exciting as the previous years. I realize that in order for people to know that it was my birthday, I would have to tell them. (Most of my friends here I haven't known but maybe a year) I didn't feel the desire to tell people it was my birthday and just went on with the day like it was any other day in Juneau.
First thing at 8am, I was surprised. My neighbor Lela came over, rang the doorbell, with a piece of cake and a lit candle. She was the first person to know it was my birthday. I was so grateful! Then a friend invited us to The Shrine for low tide. (These girls were washing their socks)At low tide is when you see sea creatures on land. We got there late but still had a good time. The weather was great. About 60? It was nice.
Lunch rolled around. What to do for lunch? Well I was invited over to Erins house for lunch. We had some of the best sandwiches/salads from Breese-in. Friends on a birthday...who could ask for more?Erin has the best view of Juneau and numerous times I thought, this is a really good birthday! Who could ask for more?
That night, Andy got home from work at 6:30. Even though we have SO MUCH TO DO, he took the time to go to dinner with me. We went to the Broiler. I even had a babysitter.
In all actuality, I realized I am getting older. Birthdays aren't AS exciting, but it is really nice to have people that remember. It was a wonderful day that flowed nicely. The kids were great, the weather was nice, my housework didn't take as long, and I got to spend some time with my husband.
P.S.--I can't forget. I got a camp kitchen from Cabelas from my husband. He told me to pick out whatever I wanted...from Cabelas. Do you know what is in Cabelas? Lets just put it this way, If I was a man...this would be THE PURFECT gift.
