We celebrated our 5th anniversary yesterday. It was really a good time and very memorable.
It was a beautiful day in Juneau. Birds chirping, sun shining, and temperatures into the 80's. The day started out at 7am. Got up and got the kids showered, dressed, and out the door to go to Janet H. house (the 1st babysitter). It was just Andy and I. We were driving down the road and I would compare my excitement as a tire full of air...Andy's tire was empty. It frustrated me to the point that I was a little angry (not a good way to start off but it is the truth).
The plan for the morning was to go on the rainforest zipline tour that started at 10:30am. We got downtown at 8:45am and had a little time on our hands. I decided to do a little window shopping which ended up bringing me into a jewelry shop, which brought the idea to buy a ring.
It isn't easy to pick out a new ring, but the lady that helped me had been doing it a long time. The ring is going to be custom made with the jewels that I picked out. Yes! I finally will have a ring on my finger again after 3 years. This time, I WON'T loose it.
Then the next stop was the zipline tour. We lucked out and only had 4 people in our group! The largest is 23 and we only had 4. Andy's tire became inflated. My most memorable moment was the excitement of zipping across the rain forest, far above the ground. You can see streamed flowing far below your feet and green trees as you get to the next platform just to do it all over again. My favorite part was spending time with Andy doing something different and relaxing. It's nice to reconnect and feel like we are human, not working machines. And last, the most enjoyable part was the group and the guides we had. They were a lot of fun and full of energy, and had a good sense of humor.
That night we took the kids to the 2nd babysitters, Carrie Warner. We got to spend the evening over a nice dinner looking over the water and the harbor at may favorite restaurant The Breakwater. It gave us a chance to talk about what we want in life and enjoy each others company. The night didn't stop there, but continued onto the movie theatre to watch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
We didn't return home until 11:30pm and we were all exhausted. This was one of my best anniversaries getting to see a side of Juneau that we never saw and renewing our love and commitment to each other. 5 years is a monumental time to me, and hope the next 5 are just going to get better. That we can learn from each other, grow closer as a couple, and as a family. I hope wherever life brings us, that we will do it together.
